Your First Week of Homeschooling: A Gentle Start

You don't need a perfect curriculum on day one. Here's how to ease in without burning out.

The first week of homeschooling sets the tone, but it doesn't have to be the whole plan. Think of it as getting to know how your child learns.

Keep the first days short

An hour or two of focused time is plenty to start. Read together, do a little math, and spend time outside. Add more as you find your rhythm.

Check your state's requirements

Homeschool rules vary by state. Some require a notice of intent or yearly assessments. The resources page links to a state-by-state summary.

Write down what worked

At the end of each day, jot one thing that went well and one thing to change. The printable planner below has space for both.
